Corinthians edge Santos with lacklustre display in Paulista Women’s

On the morning of this Saturday, 20th, Corinthians took the field to face Santos at Fazendinha, in a match valid for the 9th round of the Paulista Women's Championship. The duel ended with a score of 1 x 0 for the Paulista Alvinegro, with a goal scored by forward Jaqueline.

In a somewhat uninspired performance, Corinthians oscillated between good and bad moments in the game, but had a play creation inferior to previous games. Still, the performance was enough to come out with a victory, despite some scares suffered in the final stretch of the duel.

Corinthians Lineup

To increase the advantage in the championship lead, coach Lucas Piccinato chose a starting 11 formed by: Kemelli; Thais Ferreira, Thais Regina and Mariza; Gi Fernandes, Day Rodríguez, Gabi Zanotti, Andressa Alves and Tamires; Jaqueline and Jhonson.

On the bench, the staff counted with Lelê, Letícia Santos, Thais Regina, Gisela Robledo, Eudimilla, Ivana Fuso, Ju Passari, Vic Albuquerque, Paulinha, Juliete, Duda Mineira, Erika and Ariel Godoi.

Santos Lineup

Coach Caio Couto lined up: Karen Hipólito; Rafa Martins, Ana Alice and Pardal; Leidiane, Nath Pitbull, Suzane Pires, Thaisinha and Larissa Vasconcelo; Laryh and Rafa Andrade.

Refereeing

The whistle was held by Marianna Nanni Batalha, assisted by Juliana Vicentin Esteves and Rodrigo Meirelles Bernardo. The fourth referee was Pablo Rodrigo Soares de Oliveira. At this stage of the Paulista, VAR is not yet used.

Next Commitment

After facing Santos, the Brabas will once again turn their attention to the Brazil Cup. The team faces São Paulo, in the quarterfinals of the competition, next Wednesday, 24th, at 6pm, at Gabriel Marques da Silva Stadium, in Santana de Parnaíba. It is worth remembering that the confrontation is eliminatory.

First Half

The first dangerous arrival was from Corinthians. At six minutes, Gi Fernandes took a corner into the area and Mariza tried the header, but didn't catch it fully and the opposing goalkeeper made the save.

However, despite the first arrival, the teams began to play a very fought game in the midfield and without relevant arrivals to the areas of their respective goalkeepers.

At 27 minutes, Andressa Alves crossed to the area, Jaqueline deflected slightly and the ball ended up rebounding on the Santos defender, who almost sent it to her own goal and forced the goalkeeper to make the save.

At 36, Laryh received a deep pass from Leidiane and shot for the goal, forcing Kemelli to fly to make a great save and prevent the score from being opened by the opposing team. At 37, Rafa Andrade crossed to Leidiane, who appeared free at the far post, but headed wide.

At 43, Jaqueline received a deep pass, tried to clear the mark, but hit the rival defender. The opposing goalkeeper was already leaving the goal and giving space for the finish, but the Corinthians forward wasted the chance.

At 48 minutes, Tamires received on the left and carried to the end line. The number 37 crossed well to Andressa Alves, who tried a volley, but had the finish deflected by the opponent, winning a corner.

Corinthians' first goal: On the corner kick, Andressa Alves crossed and the ball crossed the entire area, reaching Jaqueline, free at the far post, to shoot low and put the ball in the net, opening the score for the Brabas.

There was no time for anything else and Timão went to the break winning by 1 to 0.

Second Half

The first arrival of the second half was again from Corinthians. At two minutes, after a cross cleared by the defense, the ball fell to Gi Fernandes, who tried the first shot, but sent it over the goal.

At 20 minutes, Juliete received a pass on the left side, advanced to the end, tried the cross and almost surprised the goalkeeper, with the ball passing close to the crossbar and almost entering.

At 23 minutes, Gisela Robledo received in the middle, dribbled beautifully the marker and left the ball for Vic Albuquerque. The number 17 cleared the mark and tried the shot for the goal, but the goalkeeper made the save in two times.

At 28 minutes, Dayana Rodríguez stole the ball from the opposing player at the entrance of the area and left it with Gi Fernandes. The number 23 returned to the midfielder, who tried the finish and sent it over the goal, close to the goalkeeper's crossbar.

At 33 minutes, after a ball cleared by Corinthians, Santos' defense faltered and Ariel Godoi came out free, face to face with the goalkeeper. However, the Corinthians forward finished poorly and missed an impressive chance to extend the score.

At 38 minutes, on a diagonal free kick, Santos crossed the ball into the area and Ana Alice appeared to head for the goal. However, the refereeing pointed out offside and annulled the rivals' goal.

At 44, Gisela Robledo received a great deep pass and came out in front of the goalkeeper, but took too long to make a decision and saw the mark arrive. The midfielder left the ball with Gi Fernandes, who crossed to Juliete at the far post, but the left-back saw Karen make an important save.

At 47, on a Santos corner kick, Laryh jumped higher than everyone else and got the header, but saw Juliete clear on the line to save Corinthians from suffering the draw.

There was no time for anything else and Corinthians won by 1 x 0.
