Corinthians beat Independiente Santa Fe 2-0 on Thursday night, sealing back-to-back home and away Copa Libertadores wins for the first time in eight years.

The previous occasion came in 2018, when a 2-0 victory over Deportivo Lara at Neo Química Arena was followed almost a month later by a 1-0 success away to Independiente in Avellaneda.

That campaign began under Fábio Carille, in his first spell in charge, before he departed for Al-Wehda in Saudi Arabia. Osmar Loss then took over and Corinthians went out to Colo-Colo in the last 16.

The sequence had not been repeated since. Across the 2022 and 2023 group stages, Corinthians managed four wins in 16 matches, two in each edition.

This latest result keeps Corinthians clear at the top of Group E on six points. Independiente Santa Fe are third on one. Peñarol, also on one point, face Platense, who are yet to register, on Thursday.

Before turning back to continental matters, Corinthians visit Vitória on Saturday in round 12 of the Campeonato Brasileiro, kick-off 20:00 at Barradão in Salvador.
