Corinthians are on a run of four matches without a win after a 2-0 home defeat to Coritiba in round five of the Brasileirão, and football executive Marcelo Paz has publicly backed head coach Dorival Júnior. According to Meu Timao, the result stirred anger among supporters.
“That pressure does not reach me or the training ground. I am used to continuity in work and I think that is the right path to success. Day to day is harmonious, with daily dialogue,” he told ge.globo.
Paz points to his previous long-term approach at Fortaleza, where he served as sporting director, president and CEO. He kept Juan Pablo Vojvoda in charge for a little over four years, from May 2021 to July 2025, winning five titles. Vojvoda was dismissed in 2025 after a nine-game winless run that contributed to Fortaleza’s relegation to Série B.
Home fans protested after the final whistle on Wednesday at Neo Química Arena. On Friday, leaders of organised groups visited CT Dr. Joaquim Grava to speak with players and officials in a demanding tone. Paz and club president Osmar Stabile attended.
Dorival Júnior was invited but left the facility earlier for personal reasons. Goalkeeper Hugo Souza, defenders André Ramalho and Gustavo Henrique, and midfielder Raniele, plus analysis chief Renan Bloise, took part. Players pledged to show greater intensity and responsibility next time, while Rodrigo Garro and Memphis Depay accepted below-par form.
Corinthians visit Santos at 16:00 on Sunday at Vila Belmiro in round six. Victory would end the streak and lift them from 10th on seven points, and could even take them to second depending on other results.
