Corinthians face Cruzeiro aiming to end their Mineirão hoodoo

Corinthians and Cruzeiro begin to decide who will advance to the final of the 2025 Copa do Brasil on Wednesday night (10), at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time), in Belo Horizonte. The match takes place at Mineirão, where Timão faces a long-standing taboo of 11 years without beating Cabuloso in official matches.

The last time Timão won a match against Cruzeiro at Mineirão was in October 2014, during that year’s Brasileirão. On that occasion, Corinthians came out on top with a 1-0 score. The goal was scored by Luciano, who now plays for rival São Paulo.

Since then, nine matches have been played between the teams at the traditional stadium in Belo Horizonte. The record favors Cruzeiro, the home team in all these games, with four wins for Raposa and only two draws. In the meantime, there was a friendly between the clubs, which Corinthians won 2-0.

During this period of the taboo, Corinthians managed to beat Cruzeiro as the visiting team, but the match was played at Arena Pantanal. The duel took place in 2015 and was valid for the first round of that year’s Brasileirão, with Timão winning 1-0, with a goal by Romero.

This winless period has significantly affected the historical record of the matchup at the stadium. There have been 37 games between the teams at Mineirão, with 11 wins for Corinthians, nine draws, and 17 wins for Cruzeiro, in addition to 40 goals for the São Paulo team and 51 for the Minas Gerais team.

Now, Corinthians is looking to break this taboo to gain an important advantage in the Copa do Brasil semifinal. The return match will take place next Sunday (14), at 6:00 p.m. (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena.
