Corinthians finish G-7 clashes in Brasileirão with bottom-of-the-table form

On the afternoon of this Sunday (30), Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match valid for the 36th round of the competition, the Alvinegro hosted Botafogo at Neo Química and, in front of 37,000 fans, opened the scoring, suffered a comeback, and managed to recover to tie the duel at 2-2. The goals were scored by Raniele and Gustavo Henrique.

With this result, Timão climbed to ninth place in the Brasileirão table, still with a chance to reach eighth place – the highest the Alvinegro can achieve, since the top seven have already surpassed the maximum points the team can reach in the tournament. And the poor performance of Corinthians against the clubs in this group helps explain this situation.

In the 14 matches played against the Brasileirão G-7, Corinthians achieved only two victories, along with five draws and seven defeats – a performance of just 26.2% of the points. Additionally, they scored only 12 goals, conceding 22, almost double. In total, therefore, the Alvinegro collected only 11 of the 42 points contested against the Brasileirão G-7, wasting another 31 points along the way.

To give you an idea of what this performance means, it is a rate that would have seen Corinthians finish 11 editions of the national competition at the bottom: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2024. In another ten editions, it would have given the Alvinegro second-to-last place: 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Only in the 2016 Brasileirão would this performance have resulted in a different position: 18th place.
