Corinthians have less than 40% success rate in matches after breaks

On the evening of last Wednesday (11), Corinthians hosted Coritiba at the Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the fifth round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship and lost 2-0. With the defeat, the club from Parque São Jorge dropped from third to eighth place with seven points – two wins, one draw, and two losses – five goals scored and five conceded.

The club from Parque São Jorge returned to the field yesterday after 11 days since being eliminated from the Paulista Championship, when they lost to Novorizontino 1-0 on February 28, away from home, worsening their record in the post-game pause period – at least seven days without officially playing. In a survey released by Meu Timão, during this period, the team had two wins, two draws, and three losses – eight goals scored and nine conceded – with a 38.1% success rate.

The first pause in the statistics occurred in March 2025 (World Cup Qualifiers). After this period, Corinthians drew 0-0 against Palmeiras in Itaquera in the second match of the 2026 Paulista Championship final. Even with the draw, the Alvinegro won the state title, breaking a nearly six-year drought without lifting trophies.

Then, after the June break for the World Cup Qualifiers, the club from Parque São Jorge visited Grêmio, away from home, and drew 1-1 on June 12, in the Brasileirão. In July, after the break for the Club World Cup in the United States, the Corinthians team hosted Red Bull Bragantino in Itaquera for the Brazilian Championship and was defeated 2-1.

Right after the September FIFA Date break, which included European Qualifiers and South American friendlies, the Alvinegro beat Athletico-PR at the Neo Química Arena 2-0 in the second match of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals on September 10, 2025. After the break in mid-October (European Qualifiers and South American friendlies), the club from Parque São Jorge was defeated 3-1 by Santos at Vila Belmiro in the Brasileirão.

In November, on the 20th, after the November FIFA Date (European Qualifiers and South American friendlies), Corinthians hosted São Paulo in Itaquera in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship and won 3-1. The seventh match after the pause due to elimination in the Paulistão was precisely against Coritiba last night, and the Alvinegro was defeated 2-0.

Besides the poor record in this aspect, Corinthians also went two consecutive games without scoring for the first time since July 2025. On that occasion, the Alvinegro did not score in the 2-0 defeat to São Paulo at Morumbi and the goalless draw against Cruzeiro in Itaquera in the first round of last year's Brasileirão.

Now, they prepare for the next commitment of the season. Next Sunday (15), at 4 pm (Brasília time), the Alvinegro visits Santos FC at Vila Belmiro for the sixth round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship.
