Corinthians keep up strong record in recent Campeonato Paulista openers

Corinthians hosted Ponte Preta this Sunday afternoon (11th) at the Neo Química Arena, for the first round of the 2026 Paulista Championship, and won 3-0. The goals for the Alvinegro were scored by Gustavo Henrique, André, and André Ramalho, respectively. The result puts the Alvinegro at the top of the table, seeking a good position for the knockout stage of the state championship.

In addition to the victory, the club from Parque São Jorge maintained positive numbers in its recent Paulista Championship debuts. Since 2016, over the past 10 years, there have been six wins, three draws, and two losses—13 goals scored and five conceded. In the last three seasons, the Alvinegro left the field with three points in the opening matches of the tournament.

In 2025, the club from Parque São Jorge faced Red Bull Bragantino at Nabi Abi Chedid and won 2-1, coming from behind. The previous year, a win over Guarani, 1-0, at Neo Química Arena. In the 2023 season, the state debut ended in a 1-0 defeat to Red Bull Bragantino at Nabi Abi Chedid.

In 2022, a goalless draw with Ferroviária at Neo Química Arena. In 2021, the same scoreline was repeated against RB Bragantino at Nabi Abi Chedid. In 2020, the Alvinegro made its Paulistão debut at Neo Química Arena and beat Botafogo-SP 4-1. In the 2019 season opener, a 1-1 draw against São Caetano in Itaquera.

In 2018, meanwhile, the Alvinegro played its first match as the home team, but at Pacaembu, losing 1-0 to Ponte Preta. Finally, in 2017 and 2016, respectively, Corinthians beat São Bento and XV de Piracicaba, both by 1-0. Against São Bento, the win was away. Against XV, the victory was at Neo Química Arena.

After defeating Ponte Preta at Neo Química Arena, the club from Parque São Jorge remains focused on the Paulistão. Next Thursday (15th), at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), the Alvinegro faces Red Bull Bragantino at Cícero de Souza Marques, for the second round of the state championship, looking to build a good streak in the tournament.

It’s worth remembering that the Alvinegro is the biggest state champion with 31 titles. In fact, the last one was won in 2025, against Palmeiras, with a 1-0 aggregate score over two matches.
