Corinthians loss in Brasileirão boosts TV ratings in SP and Rio

Corinthians' 2-1 defeat to Flamengo this Sunday, the 28th, in the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship, delivered one of the highest TV ratings of the year for Record, the network that broadcast the match on free-to-air TV. The figures achieved by the company were released by Máquina do Esporte, both for the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro and Greater São Paulo.

Between 8:31 PM and 10:30 PM (Brasília time), the match recorded an average of 11.9 points and an 18.8% share in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, securing second place for the network during that time slot. TV Globo led with 16 points by airing the program Fantástico, while SBT took third place with 6 points for the Programa Silvio Santos.

In Greater São Paulo, where the two largest fan bases in the country are concentrated, the classic performed even better: an average of 12.1 points, a peak of 13.3, and a 19.3% share. The game again secured second place, surpassing SBT, which scored 7.1 points, but trailing TV Globo, the leader with 16. This audience was only surpassed by the draw between Corinthians and Palmeiras broadcast the previous month, which had reached 14.4 points.

It’s worth noting that, according to Kantar Ibope Media, each ratings point represents 77,488 households and 199,313 people in Greater São Paulo. In Rio, the same metric equals 48,836 households and 120,893 viewers.
