Corinthians midfielder reflects on defeat to Sport in the Brasileirão

On the afternoon of this Sunday, September 21, Corinthians faced Sport at Ilha do Retiro in a match valid for the 24th round of the Brazilian Championship and ended up being defeated by a score of 1-0. The result left the team in tenth place with 29 points (seven wins, eight draws, and nine losses).

Moments after the final whistle, midfielder Maycon gave an interview to Premiere, analyzed the match, and lamented the team's lack of attention throughout the game: “We competed well. In the first half, we were aware of the initial pressure they would apply. Then, we controlled the game and had some opportunities. Due to a lack of attention, we conceded a goal at the start of the second half. Later, we could have secured a draw. I think these small lapses in concentration our team has been experiencing summarize what happened”, he began.

Subsequently, the number 7 added: “We came to this game looking for the three points. We competed, tried to play, even with the very complicated pitch. We had some opportunities, but unfortunately, we didn't get the result we worked hard for during the week. Now we have to prepare again because next weekend we have another very difficult battle, and we need to come out with a victory”, he said.

After losing to Sport away from home in the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians will have another free week for training ahead of the next match. Next Sunday, September 28, at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will host Flamengo at the Neo Química Arena for the 25th round of the national competition.
