Corinthians have begun 2026 with a spike in muscular injuries as a crammed schedule follows a brief off-season. The workload is a concern for the medical team.
ge.globo reports four muscular injuries in 45 days and 11 matches, double the same stage last year. In 2025 there were two such absences despite one extra game.
The latest case is striker Yuri Alberto, a grade two injury to the left biceps femoris sustained in Sunday’s win over São Bernardo, final round of the Paulista first phase. Cacá, Kaio César and Breno Bidon have also been sidelined, with Bidon starting transition work on Tuesday.
There have also been ligament issues. Full-back Hugo Farias needed surgery on the right knee’s lateral meniscus after the 3-0 win against Capivariano on 5 February, and André Luiz sat out one week with a right ankle problem before returning versus São Bernardo.
After lifting the 2025 Copa do Brasil on 21 December, the squad reassembled in early January and debuted on 11 January. Since then they have played eight Paulista matches, two in the Brasileiro and the Supercopa do Brasil.
Last year’s start also featured early commitments, including an international trip for Libertadores qualifying, yet muscular issues were limited to Gustavo Henrique and Raniele.
Dorival Júnior’s staff are seeking ways to ease the load and prevent further setbacks. Next up is Athletico-PR at 19:30 on Thursday at Arena da Baixada in a rearranged second-round Brasileiro, then Portuguesa at Canindé three days later in the Paulista quarter-finals.
