Corinthians have rejected two bids for right-back Matheuzinho in the last transfer window, including one from a Premier League club. According to Globo.com, the 25-year-old is considered central to Dorival Júnior’s plans.
The hierarchy do not feel it is the moment to negotiate a sale, particularly with a campaign featuring at least four major competitions under way. Matheuzinho has been first choice on the right for two years, he is contracted until the end of 2028 and is not agitating to leave.
In light of European interest and his role in the side, the board intend to meet the defender soon to discuss the matter. His camp had already raised this, arguing he merits greater recognition given his undisputed status and contributions to recent titles.
The offers turned down included salaries well above his current earnings. Corinthians bought 60% of his economic rights for four million euros, about R$ 21.3 million at the time, in February 2024.
His release clause is R$ 300 million for the domestic market and 100 million euros for overseas clubs. In the position, Dorival Júnior also has Pedro Milans and Jacaré available.
