Corinthians are prioritising settling their debt to Talleres, the former club of Rodrigo Garro, before reopening talks with Memphis Depay about restructuring what he is owed and a contract extension that runs to 20 June. According to Globo.com, that remains the club’s sequencing amid ongoing financial constraints.

The club owe Memphis more than R$ 30 million in signing-on fees and bonuses that are already due but have not been paid. Executive Marcelo Paz said the immediate focus is to reach agreement with Talleres on the R$ 23.35 million fee, plus interest, to avoid another transfer ban.

President Osmar Stabile recently travelled to Argentina and met Talleres chief Andrés Fassi, presenting an upfront payment proposal with a discount. Talks have not yet concluded.

Paz added that Memphis understands the stance and is keen for Corinthians to prosper. He intends to meet the forward and his representatives in the coming days to agree how the debt will be structured, which he said cannot be cleared in one go.

Only once that is resolved could the club move on to renewal discussions, which Paz believes both sides want. He said the aim is to address it before the World Cup, ideally with Memphis travelling with his situation settled. He declined to specify whether any new offer would mirror the current financial terms.
