According to Meu Timao, Corinthians have reached a verbal agreement with Fernando Diniz to become head coach, less than 24 hours after Dorival Júnior was sacked. An official announcement is expected in the coming hours.

The 52-year-old met club executives on Monday and agreed to take charge until the end of the season. He has been out of work since February following his departure from Vasco da Gama.

He is set to arrive with assistants Bruno Lazaroni and Léo Porto, analyst Lucas Vergne and fitness coach Wagner Bertelli.

Corinthians are working to register Diniz by Wednesday, the eve of their Copa Libertadores debut. They face Platense in Buenos Aires on Thursday at 21:00 in the group-stage opener.

Diniz began his coaching career in 2009 and has led Fluminense, São Paulo, Santos, Vasco da Gama and Cruzeiro, as well as Brazil. At Vasco, his 56 games produced 17 wins, 16 draws and 23 defeats, a 39.9% return, and he reached the Copa do Brasil final, losing to Corinthians.

His peak came at Fluminense, where he won the 2023 Campeonato Carioca and Libertadores, then the 2024 Recopa Sudamericana.
