Corinthians settle overdue bonuses with men’s and women’s squads

Corinthians resolved a significant issue with its male and female squads this Wednesday, 24th. According to the investigation by Central do Timão, the club paid the last installments of agreements involving the payment of overdue bonuses to its athletes, for tournaments played both this year and in 2024.

Regarding the male squad, the outstanding payments involved bonuses related to the 2024 Brazilian Championship, won due to securing a spot for the preliminary phase of the following year's Copa Libertadores, and also the 2025 São Paulo Championship, whose title was won by Alvinegro after six years without lifting trophies.

As for the women's football, the settled debt originated from the delay in the payment of bonuses involving the Copa Libertadores title and the runner-up of the São Paulo Championship, both in 2024. The club had already dishonored an installment agreement made with the athletes, still during the management of former president Augusto Melo, but renegotiated an agreement and, in recent months, completed the payment.

In the case of the Brabas, it is worth noting that the settlement only involves the players who are still in Corinthians' squad. The club claims that the payment process for players who have left the club is done separately, due to procedures involving their already made terminations, and therefore these have not yet had their outstanding payments settled, which should be done soon, according to the editorial team.

Even with this issue resolved, however, Corinthians' financial life is still delicate. As examples, it is possible to mention the debts resulting from FIFA judgments, of R$ 40 million with Santos Laguna-MEX for the signing of Félix Torres and another R$ 45 million to midfielder Matías Rojas, who played at Parque São Jorge between 2023 and 2024, or even the R$ 18 million owed to the forward as signing bonuses and prizes for goals achieved.
