Corinthians have paid Talleres US$7 million net for Rodrigo Garro, avoiding another FIFA transfer ban.

The club said in a statement signed by president Osmar Stabile that the matter is closed, praising Talleres chief Andrés Fassi’s professionalism.

A final deadline on Tuesday passed without payment, but a new deal followed as digital signatures and other formalities were completed.

FIFA ruled in February 2025 that Corinthians owed US$3.6 million, and the club appealed to CAS to avoid a fresh ban. Talks had stalled amid strained relations between deposed president Augusto Melo and Talleres.

To fund the settlement, investment firm Outfield assumed the debt in an operation approved by the club councils. Corinthians owe US$8.5 million to the company, to be repaid in 26 monthly instalments at CDI plus one per cent, about 15.4 per cent, secured against TV and advertising contracts.

The board struggled to raise cash and links the delays to recent off-field problems. The Outfield deal hit a snag, though it advanced significantly last week.

Financial pressure remains. Corinthians were placed again on FIFA’s transfer ban list over a debt to Philadelphia Union for José Martínez, and were also condemned over money owed to New York City FC for a Tales Magno loan extension.

In early May, CAS ordered payment of more than R$6 million to Midtjylland for Charles. Wages for the men’s squad and coaching staff are late for a second month, only part of other arrears have been cleared, and April showed a R$168 million deficit.
