Yuri Alberto, Corinthians’ top scorer this season, has confirmed he was not included in the preliminary squad list for Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in June under new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Speaking to sportv, the striker acknowledged the disappointment but maintained a determined outlook about his international prospects.
“Unfortunately, I’m not on the pre-list, but I won’t stop working so I can be included in the next call-up,” Yuri Alberto said. “That’s alright, I’m just grateful to God for the opportunity.”
Despite missing out, Yuri Alberto expressed confidence in Brazil’s new boss. “Ancelotti has a lot he can bring to the team and to the players who will be representing our shirt. I’ll keep giving my best.”
Ancelotti is set to announce his Brazil squad on Monday for what will be his first official matches in charge. The national team faces Ecuador on June 5 and Paraguay on June 10 as part of the South American World Cup qualifiers. Brazil will then return to action in September for the next round of qualifiers.
Yuri Alberto, whose consistent goal-scoring form has been a bright spot for Corinthians amid a challenging season, will now shift focus back to his club. While Corinthians have endured turbulence off the field, including ongoing financial scrutiny and internal reorganization, on-pitch performances like those from Yuri Alberto have provided at least some measure of stability.
The forward’s omission comes at a time when several attacking options are under review as Ancelotti begins his tenure, but Yuri Alberto remains committed to earning future selections. His reaction highlights both the ambition and professional pragmatism expected from players on the cusp of national recognition.
