Corinthians striker called up for friendlies against Japan and South Korea

This Friday, 3, Paraguay's coach Gustavo Alfaro called up Corinthians striker Ángel Romero to join the delegation traveling to Asia to play two friendlies on the next FIFA date, against Japan and South Korea. In total, the coach called up 26 athletes for the international commitments.

This is Paraguay's first call-up after qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Romero will be available for his national team for the matches that take place on the 10th and 14th, against Japan (in Osaka) and South Korea (in Seoul), respectively.

Interestingly, Paraguay's friendlies will have the same opponents as the Brazilian national team, which will feature goalkeeper Hugo Souza, another Corinthians player who was called up and who, according to the Yellow's coach Carlo Ancelotti, should play in one of the matches. Brazil faces the teams in the reverse order to Paraguay: South Korea on the 10th and Japan on the 14th.

With the call-ups, and due to the distance of the Asian countries from Brazil, it is certain that both Romero and Hugo Souza will be absent from Corinthians for the classic against Santos, on the 15th, in a match valid for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. Another called up, however, should be available: striker Memphis, who will defend the Netherlands national team against Malta, on the 9th, and Finland, on the 12th, for the UEFA World Cup Qualifiers.
