Corinthians striker returns from injury, eyes Copa do Brasil clash

On the morning of Tuesday, September 9, Corinthians completed their preparations at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals. At 9:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will face Athletico-PR at Neo Química Arena. A draw by any score guarantees the team a spot in the semifinals, since they won the first leg 1-0.

The Corinthians squad started the day with a video of tactical instructions in the Flexform Briefing Room. Afterwards, following strength training in the gym and warm-up on the field, coach Dorival Júnior conducted two consecutive tactical drills with set-piece plays, as well as penalty kicks.

In an interview with Corinthians TV, forward Yuri Alberto, who has recovered from inguinal hernia surgery and has not played for a month, commented on his injury recovery and expectations for the decisive match against Athletico-PR: “I am very happy. It’s a special week for me. I took care of myself and prepared a lot to be back. We know that after surgery, the return is a bit more complicated, but I am putting in a lot of effort and working hard to be as fit as possible and in my best physical condition.”

“It’s an important advantage. We know we got a positive result away from home, especially on a difficult pitch like theirs (Arena da Baixada). We have this big advantage, but we need to keep working so that, with the few chances we get, we can increase this lead,” he said.

In the 2025 season, Yuri Alberto is Corinthians’ top scorer with 13 goals and one assist in 40 matches. He recently had his contract renewed until July 2030.
