Corinthians are still pursuing an experienced goalkeeper to back up Hugo Souza, with two days left before Brazil’s exception window closes on 27 March. According to Meu Timao, the search remains active.

The club asked about João Paulo, 30, owned by Santos and loaned to Bahia until June 2026, but talks stalled, with Santos seeking a permanent sale and Bahia unwilling to release him after starter Ronaldo dislocated his right elbow.

Recruitment this year prioritises loans and free deals, given finances, with total debt close to R$ three billion.

In mid-January, a move for Fortaleza’s João Ricardo collapsed after he failed medicals following a right shoulder tendon injury, scuppering a planned loan to year end.

In early March, they also explored a loan for Neto, 36, from Botafogo, though no agreement was reached.

Hugo Souza is first choice. The squad also has youngsters Felipe Longo and Kauê Camargo, while Matheus Corrêa and Gustavo Milani remain in the academy.

After the international break, Dorival Júnior will be without Hugo, who will be in the United States the previous day with Brazil against Croatia. With Felipe Longo sidelined by an elbow injury, Kauê Camargo is expected to start at Fluminense on the first of April, round nine of the Campeonato Brasileiro, at the Maracanã.

The exception window permits signings of players who featured in this year’s state championships and closes on Friday. Corinthians are seeking cover for a season that still includes the Brasileiro, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
