Corinthians are considering a pre-match tribute to club icon Basílio on his 77th birthday at the Arena before facing Capivariano, according to ge.globo. The plans have not yet been confirmed.
The proposed plan would see Basílio walk onto the pitch after the warm-up to receive applause from supporters. The club is also preparing actions in the stands, though these remain subject to confirmation.
The celebration would follow the model used for recent tributes to Renato Augusto in September before Flamengo, to Gil in November on the eve of the Majestoso, and to Ángel Romero at the season opener against Ponte Preta. On those occasions, former players stepped onto the turf with family, were applauded by the Fiel, received a plaque from president Osmar Stabile and were gifted the club’s third shirt.
Basílio ended a 23-year trophy drought by scoring the decisive goal against Ponte Preta at Morumbi in the 1977 Paulista final. The planned tribute relates to the numerical coincidence between 1977 and his 77th birthday.
A São Paulo native, Basílio played for Corinthians from 1975 to 1981. Nicknamed Pé de Anjo, he also won the 1979 state title and made 253 appearances, scoring 29 goals.
