Corinthians Women and coach fired up to beat Boca Juniors

This Sunday, the 12th, Corinthians published on Corinthians TV on YouTube a behind-the-scenes look at the 4–0 thrashing of Boca Juniors in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Copa Libertadores, which took place this Saturday, the 11th. The footage brings unseen scenes of the preparation, atmosphere, and events before, during, and after the decisive match held at Estadio Nuevo Francisco Urbano, in Morón, Argentina.

The video begins by showing some emblematic spots in Buenos Aires, including a monument located in San Telmo, where there is a statue of the character Mafalda, very traditional in Argentina — the production placed a Corinthians shirt next to the statue. After that, the scene cuts to the arrival of the Brabas’ bus at the stadium in Morón.

Already in the locker room, the Corinthians players appear full of energy, with music playing and the squad mentally preparing for the match. Tamires is the first to receive tactical instructions from the staff in the footage. The first serious talk is led by coach Lucas Piccinato, who fine-tunes the game details and asks for focus on the field:

“Pay a lot of attention today to our moment. Don’t fall into the trap or the pressure. Folks, have the courage to play. At no time should we get close and have this here (space) without people on the last line. Concentrate, there’s a lot of information on the field. Truly, being able to experience a game of this magnitude, a knockout, big, in their house, with the crowd against us… It’s a life experience we’ll remember forever. Enjoy it, live it intensely, these moments are few. It’s a hostile environment, but we’re f***ing used to playing in a hostile environment!”

Then, the Brabas head to warm-ups on the field. On the way back, they receive encouragement from kitman Sergio Aparecido: “No one can beat us. Our inspiration is you. This moment is what everyone was waiting for. Everyone comes to Corinthians to be a champion; there are no losers here, only champions. I won’t forget anyone’s name.”

After more interactions, the black-and-white coach speaks again. “An Argentine journalist said Boca wanted to face Corinthians. They asked to face Corinthians, with a feeling of revenge from last year, when we beat them. If we don’t come in with a competitive spirit, we’ll struggle. Now, to me it’s crazy to face the boogeyman. We are the boogeyman. Get in there fighting for every ball and show them who Corinthians are,” he said, motivating the athletes.

The players answered Piccinato’s call, “killing” the game quickly by scoring two goals in less than 15 minutes, and a third shortly after. At halftime, focused, the Brabas discussed how to further overwhelm the opponent after Piccinato’s praise. The video then shows Jhonson completing the rout in the second half, securing a spot in the semifinals.

The behind-the-scenes ends with the players celebrating qualification and reacting to the match in the stadium’s mixed zone. It’s worth remembering that Corinthians take the field again next Wednesday, the 15th, to face Ferroviária at Estadio Florencio Sola, in Banfield, fighting for a place in the continental final.
