“Zirkzee chooses Roma.” This is how the national edition of Corriere dello Sport opens the door to the former Bologna striker joining the Giallorossi in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The increasingly strong candidate to bolster the attacking line remains Joshua Zirkzee, the 24-year-old Manchester United striker.
He made a difference in Serie A with Bologna under Thiago Motta. An atypical number nine, the Dutchman is a versatile attacker who can keep the ball, collaborate with his teammates, and set them up with brilliant passes.
But he also knows how to score goals. He’s the ideal striker for Gasperini and his style of play.
That’s why Gasperini himself is pushing to sign him in January.
Zirkzee hasn’t played much for United, and he knows that, given the difficulties of Dovbyk and Ferguson, his place at the Giallorossi is practically guaranteed. The idea of returning to Italy is quite appealing: he enjoyed the best season of his career here, with 11 goals, assists, and some impressive performances for the Rossoblu.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the player has opened the door to a move to the capital. This represents a crucial step toward closing the deal.
West Ham are also interested in the Dutchman, but the idea doesn’t excite Joshua, who prefers a move to Roma.
Now an agreement must be reached with Manchester United, who appear willing to loan Zirkzee out with an option to buy, a deal also popular with Trigoria.
The negotiations therefore appear to be on track for all parties. Gasp is crossing his fingers and hoping to secure the attacking reinforcement he missed out on last summer in January.
