Milan had a good time in the fog at San Siro on Saturday evening as they scored three goals against Empoli. It was one of the best performances of the season, conceding zero shots on target, and having an extra midfielder now seems like a must.
As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, the win could help Milan seriously bounce back in the standings. The signs were all very positive, Paulo Fonseca’s men controlled and dominated the game from start to finish like they had never done before.
In addition to this, it also became clear that this Milan side must play with an extra midfielder to reach the highest levels. Yunus Musah did a good job in the role to the right and it didn’t hurt the attack either, with Christian Pulisic drifting out wide occasionally and Emerson Royal pushing up.
At the back, Mike Maignan was barely called into action – zero shots on goal for Empoli – as Milan kept their second consecutive clean sheet in the league. Matteo Gabbia played a key role once again, getting a 7/10 in our player ratings, and the partnership with Malick Thiaw is improving.
Milan will be up against Atalanta next and that will be a big test, but at least positive signs were shown against Empoli.
