Arsenal Women were scheduled to play Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium on December 18th, 2024, in a UEFA women’s Champions League clash. However, Arsenal’s schedule to play Crystal Palace at the venue in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on the same date creates a scheduling conflict. Emma Sanders of the BBC has revealed that Arsenal are in talks with UEFA to host the match at Meadow Park. Speaking to the media on Thursday, ahead of the Arsenal versus Brighton game, Arsenal interim women’s manager, Renee Slegers, addressed the situation. Slegers acknowledges that dealing with conflicting schedules has been challenging for the club, but she recognises the effort the club has made to grow the women’s game and views this misfortune as a minor setback.

Slegers said, “I understand that it’s being discussed. It’s been a very hard dilemma for the club. I think what Arsenal has been doing well is progressing the growth of women’s football over time, so this is a bump in the road.”

On whether playing Bayern Munich at the Emirates would be advantageous to them, she added, “We look forward to playing against Bayern Munich and having a Champions League night, either way. The girls feel very comfortable at the Emirates. Borehamwood has felt like home for the longest time, but Emirates is starting to feel like home too.”

The last time Arsenal Women hosted Bayern at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League quarterfinals match during the 2022–23 season, our girls emerged victorious. Unfortunately, after that, Wolfsburg eliminated our Gunners in the semifinals, after a heroic battle. It was unfortunate that last season that our Gunner women didn’t qualify for the premier women’s European competition, but this season they’re back. Arsenal already played 2 games; they lost 5-2 to Bayern on Match Day 1 and beat Valerenga 4-1 on Match Day 2. They will play Juventus away on November 12th, followed by Bayern on December 18th.

It’s unfortunate that Arsenal won’t be able to avenge their 5-2 loss to Bayern Munich in Germany a few weeks ago at the Emirates Stadium, but even at Meadow Park, the German side will still feel our girls’ ruthlessness. Maybe, our Gunners playing to a full crowd at Meadow Park will be even better!

What do you think Gooners? Could the change of venue to Meadow Park end up being a real advantage?
