Chelsea could still look to sign an attacking player in the January window according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues have made a good start to the season and remain on course to qualify for the Champions League, but they are currently on a four game winless streak, with the gap to Newcastle in fifth down to just a point.

January was expected to be a quiet month but defensive injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana means the Blues may enter the market for a centre back and they have expressed interest in Marc Guehi.

Any other incomings will likely only be in midfield with the club weighing up whether to recall Lesley Ugochukwu from his loan at Southampton, with Andrey Santos set to remain at Strasbourg.

Chelsea are in need of a striker to complement and compete with Nicolas Jackson and despite links with Liam Delap a move is deemed unlikely in January.

However, Romano has reported the Blues could still add an attacking player to their ranks in the window, and they have scouted Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

“In the offensive position Chelsea could still do something this month,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Especially after what happened with Mudryk. Let’s also see what happens with Nkunku. We also don’t know what kind of player Chelsea wants to sign, but they are considering options.”

If Nkunku were to leave then Chelsea would need to bring in a replacement but the only way the France international will depart this month is if he expresses his desire to leave and that currently hasn’t happened.

The Blues are still waiting for Mykhailo Mudryk’s B sample to come back, and could look to go into the market if he’s hit with a lengthy ban, although they do have exciting Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian arriving in the summer.

Chelsea supporters would love a striker this month but the reality of that seems unlikely, but with this ownership always be prepared to expect the unexpected in the transfer window.
