Tommy Doyle has returned to Wolves training after a year at Birmingham, and is being assessed for next season after relegation, with Rob Edwards replacing Vitor Pereira.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 24-year-old spent 2025/26 at Blues after a July move, with a £10 million obligation to buy if promoted. They finished 10th, so he is back at Compton and cannot add to his 51 Premier League appearances as unregistered.

A Manchester City academy product with seven senior games, Doyle had loans at Hamburg and Cardiff in 2021/22, making seven outings in Germany and 20 for Cardiff, 19 in the Championship with 17 starts.

His standout loan was at Sheffield United in 2022/23, when they sealed automatic promotion with a 2-0 win over West Brom. He scored a late FA Cup quarter-final winner against Blackburn and played 38 times, with four goals and seven assists, but missed the Wembley semi versus parent club City.

Wolves first signed him on loan, then made it permanent for £4.3 million. Over two Premier League seasons he made 58 appearances, 50 in the league, but only 14 starts, 11 in his first year.

At Birmingham last season he featured 42 times, 38 in the Championship, provided four assists and was sent off against Sheffield United in December. He started exactly half of his league games and could figure for Wolves next season in the second tier.
