Frank Lampard could be tempted away from Coventry this summer amid links to Chelsea, according to reports
Frank Lampard has etched his name into Coventry City folklore by being the person at the helm to guide them back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, yet his future with the Sky Blues remains under speculation.
An incredible season for Coventry has been topped off with the club lifting the Championship title after their 5-1 victory over Portsmouth, and celebrations around the city have been going on ever since.
No team has come close to matching the heights of the Sky Blues this campaign, and in truth, their place at the summit of the division was never really in doubt.
However, that wasn't always the case. When Lampard took charge at the CBS Arena in November 2024 following the dismissal of Mark Robins, there was, rightfully, a large degree of scrutiny aimed at owner Doug King for his decision, with Robins having guided them from League Two to the brink of the Premier League, whilst Lampard had a patchy record previously.
Now, that looks to be one of the most inspired decisions King will ever make, as Lampard is set to embark on his journey with the Sky Blues in the top flight, though recent reports may have put that prospect in doubt.

Lampard and Chelsea are synonymous with one another, with the former midfielder having made over 600 appearances for the Blues across a star-studded career.
It's therefore no surprise to see his name thrown into the mix whenever the Chelsea job becomes available, having previously stepped into the dugout on two previous occasions already, with Liam Rosenior's dismissal sparking rumours of yet another return.
Lampard has previously quashed rumours of links to the Chelsea job, saying: "I think it’s disrespectful to have a judgment on it. That’s for pundits to have a judgment. I’m Coventry manager, I’m enjoying my moment of us being promoted and winning the title, and that’s it.
"Chelsea’s a big part of my life but at the moment it’s their business and my business is here."
The 47-year-old, however, never outright denied leaving the Sky Blues for the Blues, and whilst any exit at this stage is unlikely, it's certainly not out of the realms of possibility.
"All you can do is control your work and I have to come and speak to you and talk about rumours etc but at the minute I think we should just enjoy where we are in an amazing season," Lampard said. "I’m really proud and pleased to be a part of it.
"I enjoy doing what I’m doing so I can’t control who worries or not. What I would say is just enjoy this because it’s a special year."
Now, former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown has told FootballInsider that Lampard is having "doubts" about next season with Coventry, and as a result, could be tempted away if his former employers came back in for him.
Brown said: "He knows better than anybody what he’s got available to him at Coventry, and what he thinks he might need going up into the Premier League.
"He will also know what backing he’s going to get from the board, and if he doesn’t think it’s enough, he will have doubts about being there next season.
"If Lampard doesn’t think they’re prepared to give him the money needed, then he might be tempted to walk away, especially if the Chelsea job is on offer."
Of course, until Lampard outright rejects any possibility of returning to Chelsea, or the Blues appoint someone else, rumours surrounding a potential exit will continue to persist.
But at this stage, fortunately for Coventry fans, rumours are all that it is, for the moment, with no credible links emerging that the Blues have made any sort of approach for Lampard.

Indeed, Coventry supporters will be praying that Lampard denies any potential advances from Chelsea and remains at the CBS Arena for next season.
The Englishman has done a spectacular job since his arrival, and is well deserving of all the plaudits coming his way, but success does not come quietly, unfortunately for the Sky Blues.
Chelsea will be well aware of Lampard's recent success, and having previously already had him on speed dial, it would be a surprise if the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge didn't consider him an option.
Whether they make a formal move for him remains to be seen, as does whether he would welcome any talks.
