Craig Mulholland is set to leave Nottingham Forest at the end of the season to become the Scottish FA’s chief football officer, according to NY Times.

The 48-year-old arrived in summer 2023 as head of football development and talent management, overseeing the academy, B team and player development. He will lead performance across Scotland’s international sides.

Mulholland previously held youth development roles at the SFA from 2000 to 2003. He later worked with Ross Wilson at Rangers, rising from community manager to academy director between 2014 and 2023.

Forest’s backroom has been in flux. Wilson left for Newcastle United in October, and global head of football Edu is also set to depart after a disappointing tenure. With Edu in place, the club initially did not seek a direct replacement for Wilson, given his responsibilities across the Marinakis clubs, including Olympiacos and Rio Ave.

At the Nigel Doughty Academy, Mulholland helped modernise operations. The club installed new offices, treatment rooms, classrooms and synthetic indoor and outdoor pitches, part of a seven-figure upgrade that also added a new players’ car park and further building work.

Edu’s appointment last summer was billed as a statement of ambition as Forest returned to Europe after three decades. His arrival was among the factors preceding Nuno Espirito Santo’s September exit following disagreements over recruitment. Vitor Pereira has steadied the side since February, as Forest chase European progress while battling to avoid relegation, and further backroom additions will be needed regardless of the division next season.
