Cristiano Ronaldo has bought a 25% stake in UD Almería, currently third in Spain’s Liga Hypermotion as they chase promotion to Primera División. The deal has jolted the market and underlines his aim to shape the sport beyond the pitch.
In a statement on Thursday, the 41-year-old said the purchase was made through CR7 Sports Investments, a new subsidiary of CR7 SA created to manage and consolidate his investments in professional sport.
He said he has long wanted to contribute to football off the field, views Almería as a club with a strong base and clear room for growth, and wants to work with its leadership to support the next phase.
Financial terms were not disclosed, with the note describing the move as a strategic investment and a significant milestone in the Al-Nassr captain’s business career, aligned with a long-term commitment to owning professional clubs.
UD Almería president Mohamed Al-Khereiji publicly welcomed Ronaldo’s decision, stressing his stature on the pitch, his familiarity with Spanish leagues and his grasp of the first-team and academy project.
