A whole host of former La Liga stars were on show on Tuesday, as Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad locked horns in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup.
When all was said and done, though, it was the former who came out on top, to book their spot in the Super Cup showcase.
The matchup, held in Hong Kong, pitted two of Real Madrid’s greatest-ever goalscorers against one another – Cristiano Ronaldo with Al-Nassr, and Karim Benzema with Al-Ittihad.
Also on show were two ex-Barcelona players, in defender Iñigo Martínez, and youngster Unai Hernández.
In the end, though, it was a former member of the attacking ranks at Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid who made the difference on the scoreline.
After Sadio Mané’s opener was cancelled out by Steven Bergwijn, João Félix struck on the hour mark to secure a 2-1 Al-Nassr triumph.
Cristiano Ronaldo, in turn, will now have the chance to secure his first piece of silverware since swapping European football for the Middle East in this weekend’s Super Cup finale.
