The Saudi Pro League is shaping a succession plan around Cristiano Ronaldo, pairing an ambitious recruitment drive with a tentative timeline for his eventual Al-Nassr exit.

talkSPORT reports that dealmakers aim to land 50 peak-age foreign signings this summer, with efforts set to accelerate after the 2026 World Cup, while a select group of older stars remains on the radar.

Headline targets include Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes. An exploratory approach is said to have followed Salah's December flashpoint, with Michael Emenalo involved. Fernandes is on three clubs' lists, including Al-Ittihad, has a €60m clause for non-Premier League sides, says United tried to sell him in 2025 and will reassess after this summer's finals.

United team-mate Casemiro is a long-standing target and is set to leave as a free agent this summer. Names under consideration include Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana and Gabriel Martinelli, with Al-Nassr seen as a contender for the Brazilian.

Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior is also being targeted, with Al-Ahli expected to receive central funding to attempt a deal and talks with Roc Nation Sports said to be ongoing for over a year. Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski, 37, has offers to weigh.

Clubs are being urged to use up to €2 billion a season in central funds for younger signings, allocated by need and limited to fees, commissions and wages. Ronaldo is likely to leave Al-Nassr in summer 2027 and could retire, though a one-year extension and a bigger 15 per cent stake are being explored.
