Tottenham Hotspur ended their recent struggles as Archie Gray’s first senior goal secured a narrow 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park today.

The victory ended a run of consecutive league defeats for Spurs and further deepened Palace’s poor sequence as they slipped to a third straight loss.

The 19-year-old scored three minutes before half-time after Palace once again failed to defend a set piece.

Pedro Porro’s corner was flicked on at the back post, with Randal Kolo Muani and Richarlison both winning aerial duels before Gray nodded in from close range.

It was a scrappy finish, but one that carried significant weight for a Tottenham side in need of confidence and momentum.

Thomas Frank’s team could have wrapped up the points more comfortably, only to be frustrated repeatedly by marginal decisions and the frame of the goal.

Richarlison had two goals ruled out for offside, the first after Lucas Bergvall was penalised in the build-up and the second following a late run to meet a Mohammed Kudus cross.

Substitute Wilson Odobert then came within inches of doubling the lead when his effort struck the post during a swift counter-attack.

Palace were far from passive and carried the greater threat for large spells, particularly in the first half.

Jean-Philippe Mateta caused persistent problems with his physical presence, firing narrowly wide before heading over from inside the six-yard box.

Justin Devenny later blazed over from close range, while Maxence Lacroix headed agonisingly wide as the hosts searched for an equaliser.

Despite sustained pressure after the interval, Palace failed to register a single shot on target in the second half.

Their struggles at set pieces once again proved costly, with Gray’s goal continuing a worrying trend that has undermined recent performances.

Tottenham were content to defend their advantage late on and showed a level of composure that has often been missing in recent weeks.

The clean sheet will have pleased Frank as much as the result, offering encouragement after a difficult run of form.

The win lifts Tottenham up to 11th in the table, closing the gap to Palace to just one point.

Gray’s decisive moment may yet prove to be a turning point for Tottenham as they look to build momentum.
