We asked Sam Hepworth to give us his match ratings and player comments after Crystal Palace 1 Newcastle 1.

A clever free-kick routine saw Tonali and Hall combine to set up Gordon, his excellent low cross seeing Marc Guehi unable to get out of the way and deflecting the ball into his own net.

Munoz equalising in the 94th minute and a gutting equaliser meant a 1-1 draw was the final outcome.

Crystal Palace 1 Newcastle 1 – Player ratings:

Nick Pope – 8.5

Superb and some brilliant saves, his handling and kicking really good as well.

Man of the match and if he’d managed to keep that late equaliser out, it would have been a 9.

Tino Livramento – 6

Did pretty well and got up and down the pitch, his ongoing education builds, set to be a big player for Newcastle and England in the years ahead.

Fabian Schar – 7

Played well, plus one magnificent tackle in the second half that prevented a clear shooting opportunity in the box.

Dan Burn – 8

Had Mateta in his pocket all game, great return after the one-match ban.

Superb block on the line after Munoz followed up one of Pope’s great saves.

Lewis Hall – 6

See Tino Livramento.

Also played his part in Newcastle’s clever free-kick move that led to the goal.

Sandro Tonali – 7.5

Played really well, passed and moved, set to now stay in the team I think.

Like Hall, part of that set-piece move that led to the goal.

Bruno Guimaraes – 6

I thought he did ok and this match is further evidence, in my opinion, that there is no reason why he and Tonali can’t play in the same team.

Joe Willock – 5

Becoming a real unknown, you never know what you are going to get from him.

Excellent in the wins over Chelsea, Arsenal and Forest. Really poor in the West Ham match and at Palace.

Anthony Gordon – 6

A difficult day for the winger turned striker.

However, kept going and provided that superb ‘assist’ for Marc Guehi’s goal.

Alexander Isak – 5

Was put out of the match before it had really got going.

Tried to carry on after a clear push from a Palace player led to him colliding with another opposition player and hurting his hip.

Joelinton – 5

Very similar to Joe Willock, nobody knows whether Joelinton will play well or not. Probably a big factor in Newcastle’s up and down season so far. Was poor today and with Willock the same, it took a lot away from United’s attacking capability.

The Brazilian compounding this, when somehow failing to jump for that 94th minute, allowing Munoz a totally free header to score from close in.

Subs:

Harvey Barnes – 6.5

I reckon he did pretty well on his wrong (right) side of the pitch, looked Newcastle’s most dangerous player and did far better than Willock and Joelinton on the other side.

Sean Longstaff – 5.5

Worked hard when coming off the bench with 15 minutes remaining.

Callum Wilson – 5.5

Same as Longstaff, hopefully he will soon have built up enough fitness and robustness, so he can play more minutes in matches.
