Crystal Palace claimed the first European trophy in their history on Wednesday, beating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s strike.
L'Équipe notes that Palace are the third English, and third London, club to lift the trophy since its 2021-2022 launch, after Chelsea and West Ham.
Olympiakos and Roma also feature on the roll of honour, and French clubs are still waiting for a first title.
Chelsea defeated Betis Seville 4-1 in last year’s final. That win made the Blues the first team to have won every European competition at least once, with triumphs in the Champions League in 2012 and 2021, the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1971 and 1988, the Europa League in 2013 and 2019, and the Conference League in 2025.
In 2024, Olympiakos won their first European final against Fiorentina after extra time, 1-0. The Tuscan side had also fallen in 2023, losing 1-2 to West Ham.
English clubs have now taken three titles in five years. France’s wait goes on after Strasbourg’s 0-2 aggregate defeat to Rayo in this season’s semi-finals and OM’s 2-3 aggregate loss to Feyenoord in 2021-2022. AS Monaco will try to change that next season.
