Crystal Palace are considering a move for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Eagles are preparing for a new era under recently appointed manager Pierre Sage, following a highly successful two-year spell under Oliver Glasner.
Palace are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer as they look to provide Sage with the tools needed to build on the club’s recent success.
The Frenchman arrived at Selhurst Park earlier this month following Glasner’s exit.
Glasner left the club at the end of his contract shortly after guiding Palace to Europa Conference League glory. He had previously steered Palace to the FA Cup.
He was vocal about his desire for the club to invest more in the squad. This summer will be a significant test of Palace’s long-term ambitions.
However, they look to be moving in the right direction following links to Engels.
The Belgian midfielder has been praised for his ‘world-class’ quality and has attracted interest from several clubs, including Nottingham Forest.
Forest have reportedly earmarked him as an ideal replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is expected to leave the City Ground this summer.
Engels has built a strong reputation during his time in Scotland and has been praised for his technical quality and maturity in midfield.
Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers previously described him as an ‘outstanding’ talent, and speculation surrounding his future has been growing for some time.
Palace and Forest are battling to sign him, and he could be a shrewd addition for whichever club wins the race.
The Eagles are also targeting a move for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, but face serious competition from Everton.
