Last night’s Europa Conference League final outcome is likely to shape Leeds United’s 2026/27 calendar, with positives and negatives expected.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Crystal Palace beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 on Wednesday to win their first European trophy, earning Europa League football. The Eagles finished one place and two points below Leeds in the Premier League.

For a second straight year a bottom-half Premier League side has lifted continental silverware, after Tottenham Hotspur finished 17th and won the Europa League last season. That again produces record English participation in Europe for 2026/27.

The top five, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool, qualified for the Champions League. Palace join Bournemouth and Sunderland in the Europa League, with Brighton and Hove Albion taking England’s Conference League berth.

That makes nine of Leeds’ rivals bound for Europe, a figure first reached in 2025/26 and now repeated, and it will influence Daniel Farke’s schedule.

League rules prevent Thursday participants from playing on Saturday, fixtures are moved to Sunday. With four teams set for regular Thursday nights, Leeds could often face Bournemouth, Sunderland, Palace or Brighton on the following Sunday. Last season two Leeds games were pushed back for European reasons, a 3-1 loss at Nottingham Forest and March’s 0-0 draw at Palace.

European weeks also squeeze Friday and Monday slots, and Carabao Cup progress can remove more midweeks. Sky Sports are meant to select any club no more than five times across those nights, yet Leeds were chosen seven times. As a non-European draw, they remain attractive for broadcasters.

A lighter calendar could help. Leeds played 44 matches last season, while Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest played 52 and 56, and Palace 60. Leeds largely stayed healthy and managed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor, with issues only emerging after survival was confirmed.

Leeds will learn more when Premier League fixtures are released on Friday, June 19. The new campaign is due to start on the weekend of August 22/23.
