Barcelona’s win over Real Madrid in the recent Clasico was a special one as it handed the Catalans the league title on an occasion that the history books will never forget.

What made the occasion sweeter was how thoroughly the Catalans dominated and tore Real Madrid apart as Los Blancos showed barely any fight after going 2-0 down.

One controversial moment that Los Blancos claim went against them, however, was the instance when Jude Bellingham went down in the box following contact with Eric Garcia – something the on-field referee Hernandez Hernandez immediately signalled was not a foul.

The right call

As relayed by MARCA in a recent report, the CTA reviewed the incident as part of their routine ‘Review Time’ and looked into it in detail to ascertain if the referee’s call was right or biased.

Their eventual conclusion, however, was that Hernandez Hernandez’s call was spot-on and that it was never a penalty for Real Madrid.

“A Barcelona defender contacts the arm in the face of a Real Madrid player. The referee lets go and the VAR decides not to intervene,” they stated on the incident.

“It is a decision that the CTA supports because it is an interpretable action and there is no clear or manifest error. In the contact actions, the intensity must be evaluated and this action conforms to the protocol,” the justification said.

The review, needless to say, takes out the only excuse Real Madrid had to justify their defeat to Barcelona and makes clear that there was no bias in the incident that Los Blancos highlight.

Barcelona, for their part, however, will not read into the judgment regardless of how it turned out as it does not impact their season or championship in any capacity.
