Vasco and Botafogo meet on Sunday at São Januário, 18:00, in the Campeonato Carioca, with a familiar theme. Four members of the current squads have previously played for the rival. This week left-back Cuiabano joined Vasco to become the latest.
According to Globo.com, Cuiabano, developed at Grêmio, was part of Botafogo’s 2024 Libertadores and Brasileirão triumphs. He has arrived on loan with an option to buy to compete on the left.
He links up with Tchê Tchê, who left Botafogo in 2025 after a title-winning 2024 and later lost his starting spot at Vasco. On the other side, Allan, a Vasco academy graduate who turned professional in 2012 before moving to Udinese, returned to Brazil in 2024 to play for Botafogo.
Over the past 15 years, many others have crossed the divide. Forwards Pedro Raul and Rwan Cruz had spells at both. Names such as Danilo Barbosa, Victor Luís, Diogo Barbosa, Paulo Victor and Gilberto also featured for both.
Luiz Henrique, Sidão, Ribamar, Jean Irmer, Danilo Barcellos, Bruno Nazário, JP Galvão and Felipe Ferreira likewise wore both shirts.
Senior figures include Marcelo Mattos, Diego Souza, Carlos Alberto, Herrera, Andrézinho and Fellype Gabriel. Diego Souza shone for Vasco in the 2011 Copa do Brasil before a 2019 Botafogo stint, and Carlos Alberto was a key figure in Vasco’s 2009 promotion push. Andrézinho lifted state titles with both, and Herrera’s short Vasco spell followed three seasons at Botafogo.
