Real Murcia have appointed Curro Torres as head coach after Adrián Colunga’s dismissal, tasking him with steering the side into the promotion play-offs.

According to AS, he will lead the side at Nueva Condomina until the end of the season. He becomes the third coach of the 25-26 project after Joseba Etxeberria and Colunga, who was promoted from the B team.

Torres, whose brief and problematic playing spell at Real Murcia is noted, found sustained work only with Valencia CF’s Mestalla and FCI Levadia, his most recent job. He oversaw three seasons and 120 matches with Mestalla, and 133 games with Levadia, including Champions League and Conference League qualifiers. In Estonia he won a league, a cup and a super cup.

He was dismissed at Lorca FC, Córdoba CF, CD Lugo and Cultural Leonesa, the first three in Segunda División and the latter in Primera RFEF. He arrived as a mid-season replacement at Córdoba, Lugo and Cultural, mirroring his entry at Real Murcia. He also had a short spell with NK Istra in Croatia, six matches.

Torres will take charge in the coming hours and will make his debut on Sunday against Villarreal CF B, direct rivals for the play-off places and six points ahead of Murcia.
