Damien Perrinelle will leave AS Monaco, with the assistant coach’s contract not renewed at the end of the season.
The move had been anticipated since Sunday’s 5-4 at Strasbourg, after which director general Thiago Scuro said the club would meet him to review his position. According to Nice-Matin, discussions took place on Wednesday and both parties agreed not to extend his deal.
The Suresnes-born coach has just completed his sixth season at the club, holding various roles. He led the Elite group, then became Niko Kovac’s assistant before returning to work with the youngsters. He later rejoined the first-team staff under Adi Hütter and finished his contract in Sébastien Pocognoli’s staff, who arrived in October 2025.
In recent weeks his remit had narrowed. A difficult campaign, 7th in Ligue 1, and a heavy internal mood did not help, while the 42-year-old also wanted a new setting to continue progressing.
He is currently taking the BEPF coaching qualification, which he is expected to obtain in June. That would allow him to become a head coach, though an influential assistant role elsewhere could also suit.
The split is amicable and the club wishes Perrinelle well for the future. Club psychologist Makis Chamalidis, in post for three seasons, will also not continue with Monaco. Elite group coach Djimi Traoré will likewise not be retained.
