Wolves are targeting out-of-contract Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil for their summer rebuild after relegation, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
The 24-year-old academy graduate has made more than 200 appearances, helping Sunderland climb from League One back to the top flight. Used sparingly by boss Regis Le Bris this season, he joined Ipswich on loan in January chasing back-to-back promotions.
Versatility defines Neil. Mainly a number eight who links play and operates tidily in tight areas, he has also covered at full back. He is not a prolific scorer, with a single-season best of four.
He debuted in 2018 and has been a fixture since 2021/22, regularly topping 40 appearances and wearing the armband at times. He has drawn praise from managers and team-mates, with some tipping him to make a Premier League impact if his progress continues.
It has been confirmed he will leave at the end of his deal in the coming months. He has spoken of frustration at limited Premier League minutes and a determination to return. Ipswich could still go up this season, and if not, a move to Wolves may offer that route.
