Hansi Flick’s first move as FC Barcelona manager was to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The Spaniard was the only marquee signing the club made last summer.
Olmo’s first season back at Barcelona was filled with drama. Registration issues began the moment he joined the club and followed him throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Injuries also prevented the Spanish attacking midfielder from enjoying much continuity last season. However, whenever he was fit, he continued to prove how indispensable he was to the German coach’s team.

In a recent interview, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Olmo was asked about Hansi Flick and whether the German coach speaks Spanish. He said:
He’s starting to say a few words here and there.
Olmo was then asked what language the coach uses when he is angry. He continued:
Mainly Spanish when he’s not angry. But if he gets mad, it’s in English.
The Spaniard was then asked if the head coach uses German. He replied:
Not much. He uses that with his staff.
One of the biggest concerns before appointing Flick was the fact that he didn’t know the language, and foreign coaches hadn’t really succeeded at Barcelona before.
It is safe to say, one year into the job, that Flick has done marvelously well, and his lack of Spanish might have actually helped shield him from the unforgiving Catalan media.
It remains to be seen how the German coach fares this season. Olmo is likely to be a key part of the coach’s plans, and only time will tell how it plays out.
