Benfica have confirmed Daniel Banjaqui has signed a new contract to 2031. The club said in a statement that the defender has extended his deal. He rejected Barcelona to commit his future.

The world under-17 champion with Portugal had attracted interest from several clubs. As part of the renewal, Benfica have set an €80 million release clause.

He made his first-team bow in December 2025 against Farense in the Taça de Portugal, then soon started against Estrela da Amadora, supplying an assist.

Although his opportunities narrowed after Alexander Bah returned, he has impressed elsewhere. He has been a key figure in the UEFA Youth League for the under-19s and has already stepped up to the under-21 national team, where he has also scored.

This season for Benfica, Banjaqui, valued at €5 million, has played 27 matches: 14 in Liga Portugal Meu Super, seven in the UEFA Youth League, three in the Liga Revelação, two in Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal. Across 1,837 minutes he has one goal and five assists.
