“In the last few games we had suffered too many counterattacks. Genoa are a difficult team to face, but we created some chances, we shot 100 times from the edge of the box without hitting the target even once.”

“Genoa played well, like it was the game of their lives and I respect that. An important match, an important victory that shows that these guys have a giant heart.”

“I will do everything I can to make this team better. Every year the coach sits down with the sporting director and the president to improve the team. Inter, who were the best this year, will do the same and will try to improve further.”

“Then there are limits, budgets to respect. We haven’t talked in detail yet. I don’t know what we can do yet, but we will certainly do something to make Roma a higher-ranking team.”

“We are better than sixth place. Roma must try to get into the top 4. Not that doing so is easy. Also because, take the two of you to your choice of the teams that are above us, three actually. Inter, Milan, Juve, Atalanta, Bologna who have been super this year. Lazio are below, Napoli, Fiorentina, many strong teams are below us.”

“But we have to work to get into the top 4. Roma have done it for many years and we have to do it again. It’s not impossible. It depends on how you play, how you build teams, how you play, how consistent you are.”

“The market? I haven’t had much time to think about it yet. It’s a terrible business because you get thousands of calls every day from agents and journalists. I did do a bit of healthy amateur scouting alone and with my staff. A DS will arrive that will have ten thousand names on his mind. We will compare our views.”

“I am clear about the characteristics that this team needs to have and which it lacks. Based on the players who will remain and who will leave, also the alternatives we will have, we will understand which players to sign and how to fit them.”

“From day one I said that this is a strong squad, which has few players who dribble, few players with great legs, who are the players who gave us the most difficulty when we met them. We all remember the effort made against Frimpong. A feature that this team lacks must be added. Then it will also be clear from who wants to stay, who wants to leave, and the opportunities that arise. I’m not being mysterious, I haven’t spoken in detail to anyone. It would be premature or correct to say I want this or that.”

“Dybala? He’s doing great. He just wasn’t fit enough to play more than 30 minutes,” he added.
