Danilo Cataldi undergoes sports hernia surgery in Barcelona and hopes for 13 July pre-season | OneFootball

Danilo Cataldi has undergone surgery to correct a long-standing sports hernia and is hoping to be ready for Lazio’s pre-season on 13 July.

The midfielder had battled the issue throughout the campaign, making his last appearance in the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta on 22 April. He delayed the operation until the season’s end, following teammate Mattia Zaccagni’s example from last year.

The procedure was carried out in Barcelona by specialist surgeon Ramon Cugat, and Cataldi will return to Italy later this week to begin his recovery.

On Instagram he shared a thumbs-up from his clinic bed with the message ‘All OK.’

He turns 32 in August and finished the season with 30 competitive appearances, three goals and three assists.

When he returns, it will be under a new coach, with Maurizio Sarri leaving by mutual consent today. It is widely reported that Gennaro Gattuso has agreed to take over at the Stadio Olimpico next season.
