37-year-old German signs contract until summer 2029

FC Red Bull Salzburg's new head coach is Danny Röhl! The 37-year-old German, most recently coach of Rangers, joins our Red Bulls and has signed a three-year contract.

Experience at the highest level

Throughout his coaching career, Danny Röhl has already gained extensive experience at a very high level. He has served as assistant coach at RB Leipzig (under Ralph Hasenhüttl), Southampton (under Ralph Hasenhüttl), German record champions FC Bayern Munich (under Hansi Flick, winning the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga, DFB Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup), and with the German national team (under Hansi Flick).

This has been followed by head coaching positions in England and Scotland, at Sheffield Wednesday and most recently with 55-time Scottish champions Rangers. He is now joining us in Salzburg and starts his role with pre-season training today.

Our stated aim was to have our new head coach in place by the start of pre-season training. We've achieved this by recruiting Danny Röhl, our preferred candidate. Throughout his career, Danny has amassed a wealth of experience at a high level with some of the most prominent teams in European professional football. We are convinced that his playing philosophy and his approach to developing players are a perfect fit for the style we want to play at FC Red Bull Salzburg. We're now delighted to be able to get right into things straight away.

I'm incredibly excited about my new role at FC Red Bull Salzburg. I'm already familiar with the club from my previous coaching experience and know what opportunities exist here, the quality within the club, and the ambitious aims they pursue. That's precisely what attracted me. Salzburg stands for courageous, intense, and attacking football – a style of football I strongly identify with and which also aligns with my own vision of the game. Together, we want to develop a team that plays with energy, determination and with a clear style of play. Our aim has to be to bring titles back to Salzburg and to represent the club successfully on the European stage. We will work hard every day to achieve this. The immediate priority is to get to know the players and everyone involved quickly, build close relationships, and prepare the team as best as possible for the challenges ahead. We have some exciting tasks ahead of us, and I look forward to embarking on this journey together.

Danny Röhl

The first training session under Danny Röhl takes place today - Wednesday 17 June at 12:00 CEST in our Taxham training centre.

At 16:00 our new coach will be officially unveiled at a press conference at our Red Bull Arena where he will be joined by Marcus Mann, our Managing Director of Sport. The press conference can be followed via a free RBS-TV livestream on our website and app.
