Brighton striker Danny Welbeck (34) could be in line for a sensational return to the England squad, with head coach Thomas Tuchel reportedly considering the veteran forward ahead of this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, according to reports from Sky Sports.
Welbeck, who turns 35 later in November, has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in form, scoring six goals in his last five Premier League appearances. His clinical finishing and tireless work rate have reignited calls for his inclusion as a potential back-up to Harry Kane, offering England valuable experience and versatility in attack.
Tuchel, who has overseen an impressive qualifying campaign that saw England secure their place at the World Cup with two games to spare, faces a delicate balance between rewarding current form and maintaining squad continuity.
A former Manchester United and Arsenal forward, Welbeck last represented his country in 2018, earning 42 caps and netting 16 goals for the Three Lions. While his international career appeared to have drawn to a close, his recent performances suggest a player rejuvenated both physically and mentally.
Tuchel will name his squad on Friday, and should Welbeck’s name be included, it would mark one of the most unexpected recalls in recent England memory.
