Darwin Nunez will leave Al-Hilal this summer after falling completely out of favour with the club. Nunez only actually moved there in 2025 but the January arrival of Karim Benzema forced him out of the squad.

Nunez will now almost certainly return to Europe. But where?

Well, hopefully Liverpool. The stage is set beautifully for the Uruguayan, who maintains plenty of fans on Merseyside. It was difficult not to love him, wasn't it?

But while this sounds a little like a joke, re-signing Nunez actually makes an incredible amount of sense. Especially when you look at where this Liverpool squad actually stands.

Hugo Ekitike is out, likely until the New Year. Alexander Isak struggles badly to remain fit, too, meaning there will comfortably be stretches across next season where neither are available and Liverpool lack a centre-forward.

On top of that, they need a new left-winger. That's been the case since losing Luis Diaz, while there's now also talk that Cody Gakpo could leave the club.

Nunez, then, is a centre-forward who can play on the left. He's in his prime years and knows the club, meaning no bedding-in period is necessary and he can deliver right away.

He's also far, far more suited to Andoni Iraola's style of play than he was Arne Slot's. Nunez is all about that chaotic style of football, wanting to take risks every time, run with the ball, and inject constant energy.

There may not be a better welcome gift for Iraola, in fact. Nunez would fix some problems immediate and with little fuss - especially if he's a free transfer.
