The playmaker spent three seasons at the Hawthorns before departing at the end of last season with the expiration of his contract.

The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order in the final months of his time with the Baggies, starting just 19 Championship games in the previous campaign.

Swift spent time in the Portsmouth academy system as a teenager before going on to play at senior level for the likes of Chelsea, Reading, Brentford and Swindon Town.

Portsmouth have confirmed the arrival of Swift as their latest signing of the summer transfer window.

Dike has issued a response on social media to the news, congratulating his former teammate on the next step in his career.

“Love thatttt,” wrote Dike, via Instagram.

Dike and Swift were teammates at West Brom, with the pair joining within six months of each other.

Swift proved a crucial part of the side upon his arrival in the 2022 summer transfer window, signing from Reading.

He featured 45 times in the Championship in his first year at the club, contributing six goals and nine assists as the Baggies finished ninth.

He scored a total of 18 league goals across three years at the Hawthorns, with Albion coming fifth and ninth in his second and third campaigns with West Brom.

Portsmouth’s summer business

Swift is Portsmouth’s second signing of the summer transfer window, arriving after Adrian Segecic joined from Sydney FC.

John Mousinho will be keen to strengthen the squad as he looks to improve on the club’s 17th place finish last season.

Pompey will get their campaign underway with a trip to face Oxford United on 9 August.

Swift return to Portsmouth has potential

Swift fell down the pecking order at West Brom, but he still proved a useful part of the squad as they fought for promotion to the Premier League.

If the 30-year-old can rediscover his best form by going back to familiar territory at Fratton Park, then he could be a great addition in Mousinho’s side.

Regardless, he will bolster their attacking threat next season, which is a bonus.

Given he has been signed as a free agent, it’s a relatively risk-free addition due to the low cost of completing the deal, meaning it could prove a very shrewd piece of business.
