Milan would be open to bringing in Jonathan David if he asked to depart Juventus in January, provided they manage to offload Gimenez to make room, TuttoSport informs.
The Canadian star was supposed to replace Dusan Vlahovic as the go-to striker. He indeed opened the season as the starter, but his performances left a lot to be desired. His teammate didn’t depart and eventually reclaimed the job.
David appears to have lost his confidence after missing a few glaring chances and has scored just once since moving to Juventus, but he continues to have fans across Europe, including Chelsea, Tottenham, and Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The gaffer isn’t so high on Gimenez, who’s still scoreless in Serie A play. If the Rossoneri made the call to sell him, they could tender a loan with an option to buy for the Old Lady’s center-forward.
In the meantime, the former Lille star will serve as Vlahovic’s deputy. Director Damien Comolli clarified that they would negotiate to renew the expiring contract of the Serb only at the end of the season.
The Rossoneri had seemed more interested in strikers with different characteristics, but he wouldn’t be the worst fit if they opted to use a light frontline to exploit the counters all season long. On the other hand, it would only be a lateral move for him, as, considering Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, he wouldn’t be a surefire starter at San Siro unless Allegri changes the scheme. Plus, it doesn’t make sense for the Bianconeri to pull the plug early while the future of Vlahovic is up in the air.
